IRG 1: Quantum Metamaterials
Quantum Metamaterials (QMM) is establishing a new paradigm of quantum metamaterials that integrate quantum building blocks to actively shape and control light-matter interactions, achieving extreme nonlinearities and ultrafast optical properties.
The intellectual focus of IRG1 is the establishment of a predictive and experimental framework for QMM, pioneering the integration of quantum material units and hierarchical architectures to actively shape and control light-matter interactions beyond current capabilities. This will enable innovations in fields including ultrafast and quantum information processing, precision sensing, and photonic technologies relevant to life science and biological systems.
The long-term research goal of IRG1 is to understand, design, synthesize, and characterize hierarchical QMMs that integrate atomic- and nanoscale quantum building blocks with mesoscale structures and Electromagnetic (EM) resonators to achieve unprecedented optical functionalities and extraordinary properties beyond those found in nature.
