Since we are strongly committed to the preparation and investigation of a variety of magnetic nanostructures, we are developing a program of nanoprobe characterization with Prof. Edward Yu, UCSD, ECE Dept., who is an expert in this area. The initial focus will be on the structural characterization on a nm scale of particle arrays, composite systems, and film surfaces. We will then begin utilizing nanoprobe techniques for characterizing the magnetic state of these systems on a nm scale. This offers the prospect of an additional technique for storing and reading information in single particles.
